In fact Lauren and I had to cancel our trip to WV this weekend to visit Dad and go skiing because of the second blizzard to hit there in over a week. I guess its only appropriate that if we couldn't come to the snow then the snow would come to us. We did have a winter storm a couple weeks ago but it only brought an inch of snow. The rest was coated by 2 inches of ice which more of a nuisance than it is fun. Well last night after stepping foot out of the movie theater we were shocked to see a couple inches of snow waiting for us on our car in the parking lot. REAL SNOW. The kind that comes down in big, heavy, wet flakes. (We usually just get the dry powdery stuff in the south). We didn't waste any opportunity to play in it when we got home. Being 11PM didn't stop us from building a snowman and even taking pepperdog out to play for a while.

It has been setting in our Netflix queue for a while. It is a documentary about the dangers of our nation's growing food industry and the health risks associated with it. The film focuses on the contrasts between two types of farms our food comes from today. Factory farms that mass produce most of our meats and dairy products using "food science technology" like growth hormones. Traditional "organic" farms raising animals in their natural environments without additional stimulants and additives. Food, Inc. goes beyond the obvious nutritional differences of these two methods while also highlighting the political, financial and ethical issues involved.

In fact it has been 5 months since my last post. Since then the site slowly started falling apart. Over the years I have leapfrogged from one free blogging service to the next. The last one I was using went under and closed up shop leaving my blog out in the cold. I guess you "get what you pay for". Rather than quickly jumping to another free service and risk the same fate I chose to take a few months off and search for a better solution. Thanks to Wordpress I have finally found that solution. Let me take you on a quick tour of all the powerful new features of my new site.

We stayed in Atlantic Beach for the night. After some delicious seafood at The Sanitary restaurant we took the dog for a walk on the beach before calling it a night. This was Peppers first experience with the beach. She wasn’t sure what to think at first. The next day we spent a few hours enjoying the sun. The water was way too cold to get in. We learned that Pepper is not very fond of the waves at the ocean. Not sure if she is scared of the sound or the way it moves or both. Nevertheless she still enjoyed digging tons of holes in the sand and then laying in them to stay cool. That black fur gets hot in the sun pretty quickly. The main purpose of the beach trip was to visit Lauren’s grandparents who live in that area. It had been a while since we had payed them a visit. After spending a couple hours visiting with them it was time to head home.

Every year for our anniversary Lauren and I decide to celebrate with a 3-day mini vacation. Last year we took a trip to Ocracoke Island. This year Charleston, SC was our choice for our 2nd anniversary. This was my first trip to the city after wanting to visit it for years. Lauren had been there before a couple times. We reserved a hotel in North Charleston and got a great deal since we booked a couple months early. After making the long 4.5 hour drive from my office we crashed and prepared for our weekend ahead. We decided not to make any formal itinerary which helped us to relax even more. No need to worry about sticking to a strict schedule the next few days. We just came and went as we pleased and it worked out very well.

The story of baby Jonah continues to spread. Over the weekend Matt and Patrice have had nearly 30,000 visitors to their blog. Hundreds of other blogs are sharing their story and spreading the word. A flood of comments continue to fill their blog every day with prayers, words of encouragement, medical advice and even other children of all ages who have suffered from this disease and are still living normal daily lives now. Their Facebook Group continues to gain new members of support and is currently over 1000 members strong. Tens of thousands across the country have joined with their churches in support through prayer groups for baby Jonah.

For those of you who are not aware I wanted to share this with you. Lauren’s longtime friends Matt & Patrice are going through a very tough time with their newborn son today. They were pregnant last year with a boy. They named him Gabe. At 37 weeks, with no former signs of trouble, Patrice had a miscarriage and Gabe was stillborn. Lauren had taken pregnancy photos earlier last year that ended up being some of the only recorded memories Matt & Patrice had of Gabe. The doctors never learned what caused Gabes death.
