iPad: The Bigger Picture

It has been nearly a week since Apple’s iPad launched. In that time I have managed to test one out twice at the store. Initially I planned to write a review as quickly as possible on launch day to catch all the buzz. I quickly realized that would be a waste of my time since I only spent a total of 30 minutes with the iPad. Also everyone else in the world had already posted their iPad reviews anyhow. Writing another iPad review seemed redundant.

Instead of a review I want to focus on the bigger picture of the iPad. Not just the increased screen size but the broader reach of this new category of computers. Will the iPad forever change the way we think about and use computers or is this just another passing fad.

The Good, The Bad, The iPad

Apple’s newest consumer electronic device was finally announced to the world. The much rumored tablet device, now officially named the iPad, was showcased by Steve Jobs earlier today. Unless you live somewhere without electricity you probably already know all about. Of course if that’s the case then it is safe to assume you are not able to read this blog. I don’t want to spend a lot of time detailing the specs again so for the full list see Apples iPad Specs page. The basics are a 9.5″ LCD screen in a 0.5″ thick case that weighs 1.5 pounds. The form factor essentially is a supersized iPod Touch. The screen is multi-touch sensitive and twice the resolution of its smaller cousins. The iPad runs all the existing App Store apps (140,000+ but whos counting). It includes all the standard features of WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, Digital compass, and optional 3G support. To really understand what this all means you have to see this thing in action.

The Blog Is Back Baby!

website_clipIts been a very long time since I have made a blog post. In fact it has been 5 months since my last post. Since then the site slowly started falling apart. Over the years I have leapfrogged from one free blogging service to the next. The last one I was using went under and closed up shop leaving my blog out in the cold. I guess you “get what you pay for”. Rather than quickly jumping to another free service and risk the same fate I chose to take a few months off and search for a better solution. Thanks to Wordpress I have finally found that solution. Let me take you on a quick tour of all the powerful new features of my new site.
